1. BBC Propaganda

1.1 “Unvaccinated” Exposed

The BBC has received some serious and deserved criticism this week over its “Unvaccinated” propaganda-fest, aired on BBC2 on 20th July. It’s rare for anything to trend on Twitter that isn’t far-left nonsense, so it has been wonderful to see the hashtags #Unvaccinated and #UnvaccinatedDocumentary featuring so prominently - the vast majority of comments have been scathing, to put it mildly.

“Unvaccinated” was unbridled propaganda from start to finish, attempting to ridicule unvaccinated people as fringe conspiracy theorists, and promoting outright lies about the safety and efficacy of the vaccines. The BBC despises the majority of normal people in the UK who are forced to fund it through the outrageous mandatory license fee.

There’s little to add to Professor Norman Fenton’s highly recommended and surgical debunking of the drivel, or to an excellent Lotus Eaters podcast video with Nick Dixon, other than to note the obvious political leanings of the presenter Hannah Fry - Gary Lineker is not the only far-left Woke nutter masquerading as “Talent” at the BBC.

1.2 Climate Propaganda - “The Great 2022 Heat Wave” Lie

The “Unvaccinated” fiasco is laughable - though not in a funny way. But it’s the tip of the iceberg as far as BBC far-left disruptive activism is concerned. There was another example this week which seems to have gone completely un-noticed so far - let’s walk through it.

The “record UK heat wave” was previewed by the BBC (and others) well before it arrived. When recorded temperatures finally reached 40° Centigrade on Tuesday 19th July, the BBC were beside themselves - incontrovertible proof of man-made climate change! Conveniently, there were even fires breaking out, right on cue; the planet was literally burning!

But all was not quite as it seemed - the truth of things is very different to the picture provided by the BBC. The story starts with a fairly typical social media post from a left-wing climate fanatic.

We won’t dwell long on the obvious motivations of this poster, other than to point out that she is not from the UK (more on that below) and her propensity - like so many others of the ‘caring sharing Woke’ brigade - for casual lies. They lie so often, in order to subliminally cement their propaganda in the minds of their “useful idiot” audience, they don’t even realise they’re doing it much of the time. Tropical North Queensland never experiences temperatures close to this? Really?

So far, so ‘normal’. Nothing unusual about baseless alarmist claims from neo-Marxist agitators on social media. But then…

Who is “Anton Theunynck”? Is he an elected UK politician? A highly qualified scientist? Is he even British?

No, on all counts. He’s a nobody, without even a claim to a graduate education - just some short on-line courses from big name Universities (Cambridge and Università Bocconi) which provide an air of credibility to the terminally gullible. A far-left activist and a Belgian national claiming a “contact” at the BBC - and one senior enough to influence editorial policy without even the need to wonder whether that will be possible - “The heading will be changed”, “… it will link…”.

This has to be a bogus claim from a Walter Mitty character, right? Let’s look at what happened next.

As per the final comment from Tunde Agoro, “this is activism in action!”. Indeed it is. What it most certainly is not though, is unbiased news reflecting the true opinions of genuine scientists - even the BBC’s own, who are hardly the most independent voices in the debate. To summarise the resulting situation:

There is a weather video, from an actual meteorologist, Matt Taylor, which doesn’t mention climate change. Then there is a separate ‘news’ report from the BBC News Climate Editor Justin Rowlatt - who is an Oxford PPE graduate with no expertise in natural sciences, who has previously been sanctioned for making misleading claims, and whose sister Cordelia is an ‘Insulate Britain’ activist who has twice been arrested. Rowlatt’s article is pure activist propaganda driven by a small but powerful clique in the BBC who collude with climate alarmists on social media.

So Anton Theunynck’s contact is either Danielle Mulder herself, someone who ‘has her ear’, or perhaps Justin Rowlatt. Stop and think about this for a moment. Let it sink in. A bunch of far-left climate alarmists on LinkedIn - most of whom are not even British - are able to demand, and get, changes to BBC articles to better reflect their extremist views.

So who is “Danielle Mulder, Group Sustainability Director”? She must be a science expert, surely? With detailed specialist knowledge of climate issues? Well, having previously been a supply chain and logistics consultant, she did retrain, gaining an MSc in Environmental Science 8 years ago (it took her four years). Since when she’s seemingly not done too badly from the climate alarmism grift.

But Mulder was appointed to an internal sustainability role - to oversee the BBC’s own journey to carbon neutral operations - not to exercise editorial control over the entire BBC narrative on global climate. How does she wield so much authority over the ‘news’ agenda?

Does it really matter? Surely the BBC weather team wouldn’t associate themselves with something they didn’t believe? Before we get to that, let’s finish the story on the LinkedIn thread. I was pretty enraged, as I hope most readers will be, at yet another blatant example of the BBC pushing a false climate narrative. So I joined the ‘conversation’ - briefly! Yes, you know where this is heading:

Every part of my comment was true, it contained no profanities and, under the circumstances, anything which might remotely be construed as a ‘personal attack’ (the final two sentences) were about as mild as I could stomach in terms of self-censorship - in what turned out to be a futile attempt to avoid the wrath of the LinkedIn thought police. You will see far less civilised comments all across social media, including LinkedIn. Why was my post censored - does Anton Theunynck, or even Danielle Mulder herself, also have a friendly “contact” at LinkedIn?

2 Was There a Record UK Heat Wave Last Week?

Let’s get back to the BBC story itself, and the truth about the “record heat wave” of last week.

The whole scandal kicked off because the original video by Matt Taylor - unlike Mulder, a professional meteorologist with over 20 years experience - wasn’t alarmist enough for the far-left extremists. The BBC, their MSM peers and Big Tech collaborators constantly claim that “climate scientists” say these ‘extreme weather events’ are due to climate change. But Rowlatt’s ‘news’ story in no way accurately reflects the views of unbiased climate scientists. It’s blatant political propaganda from Rowlatt, Mulder and their activist “contacts”.

So was it really an “unprecedented heat wave” at all, let alone one resulting from man-made climate change? It must have been, surely - even the BBC wouldn’t collude with the Met Office to fake temperature readings? In considering this question, take another look at the “Unvaccinated” documentary, and tell yourself that even the faintest remnant of journalistic integrity remains at the BBC - they would indeed mislead about temperature readings, but it’s a little more subtle than simply faking them.

There was a lot of social media chat prior to last Tuesday about the alarmist forecasts (burning planet, thousands dead and so on), with frequent references to previous heat waves, for example in 1976 and 2003. The BBC and others frequently tell us that “the hottest years on record” have all been in the past few decades and are increasing in frequency. But those detailed records only began in 1910, and there is much controversy about how past temperature records have been adjusted or nullified due to alleged human error - anything inconvenient to the narrative is edited out. Mulder’s recent intervention follows a long tradition of political interference in climate ‘science’.

Much has been written elsewhere about the Roman (250 BC to AD 400) and Medieval (950 to 1250) Warm Periods, with debate over whether these were regional or global phenomena. Of course - they are dismissed as ‘localised’ events by those who claim ‘exceptional’ heat today from anthropogenic (man-made) Greenhouse Gas sources.

In many past periods and individual events, there was no mechanism for recording accurate temperatures - we need to rely on ‘proxies’ such as tree ring data - so we can never know what true temperature extremes were reached. As claimed in this paper, there is significant evidence that temperatures in the extreme European heat wave and drought of 1540 exceeded those in 2003 and - more importantly - that reliance on proxy temperature records should be treated with caution (emphasis mine in quotes):

“… the authors of these studies overlooked the fact that the heat and drought in Switzerland in 1540 likely exceeded the amplitude of the previous hottest summer of 2003, because … (technical factors) … severely affected the reliability of grape harvest data (GHD) and tree-rings as proxy-indicator”.

“Based on the temperature estimates for Switzerland it is assumed from a great number of coherent qualitative documentary evidence that … temperatures were likely more extreme … than in 2003. Considering the significance of soil moisture deficits for record breaking heat waves, these results still need to be validated with estimated seasonal precipitation. It is concluded that biological proxy data may not properly reveal record breaking heat and drought events”.

Here is another paper discussing the 1540 heat wave, which concludes that:

“The model-based reconstruction suggests further that with a probability of 40%–70%, the highest daily temperatures in 1540 were even warmer than in 2003, while there is at most a 20% probability that the 1540 mean summer temperature was warmer than that of 2003 in Central Europe”.

Whatever the propagandist activists at the BBC tell you, there is not “uniform consensus” amongst climate scientists. You are being lied to.

But whether or not maximum local temperatures are higher now than in recent centuries is actually beside the point. Wikipedia contains an interesting list of previous heat waves. Let’s consider 1976 - it is within living memory for many of us, and we have excellent modern records which aren’t available for more ancient examples.

From someone who was a teenager at the time and remembers it well, the recent transient hot weather is in no way comparable to the prolonged heat wave of 1976, when temperatures were elevated throughout the summer and, according to Wikipedia:

“… for 15 consecutive days from 23 June to 7 July temperatures reached 32.2 °C (90 °F) somewhere in England. Furthermore, five days saw temperatures exceed 35 °C (95 °F). On 28 June, temperatures reached 35.6 °C (96.1 °F) in Southampton, the highest June temperature recorded in the UK. The hottest day of all was 3 July, with temperatures reaching 35.9 °C (96.6 °F) in Cheltenham”.

Recorded UK temperatures did not exceed 36° Centigrade in 1976; this is not disputed. However, in 1976 the UK population was 56m, compared with 67m today - an increase of 20%.

The population of London is 1.5m more than during the 2003 heatwave, and 2m more than in 1976. In 1976, there were half today's number of vehicles on the roads, and the M25 Motorway didn’t exist. Passengers numbers at Heathrow Airport were about 1/3 of today's (pre-pandemic) levels, and terminals 4 and 5 hadn’t been built.

So the UK population has increased massively over the past 45 years, and well before that too of course, along with housing, transport and other infrastructure to support the ever growing numbers of people. The population of Western Europe was ~57m in 1500, ~81m in 1700 and ~420m in 2020.

This is all incredibly relevant to the recent temperature record - since 1910 and before - because of something called the “Urban Heat Island” effect.

Somehow though, these items discussing actual science are hidden away on Twitter or the BBC web site - never discussed on prime time news broadcasts. Just alarmist, misleading propaganda about ‘record breaking temperatures’.

London and Paris are by some distance the largest urban areas in Western Europe, as per the Wikipedia listing reproduced below.

There were no concrete mega-cities during pre- 20th Century weather events, nothing like the volume of water used by humans, no motorways, no airports, no massive Urban Heat Islands, which have continued to expand even since 1976 and 2003.

Look at the map below, highlighting “Very Extreme Danger” areas and posted on LinkedIn (original source not verified) - winds from the south, and highest risks directly to the north of London, Paris, Madrid, Rome, and the heavily populated French Riviera. Why not to the north of Milan, population 3m plus? The Alps.

It is no surprise to anyone - including the few true “scientists” at the BBC - that high recent (past century or two) temperature records continue to be set in Europe and elsewhere. The Urban Heat Island effect, changes in forested areas, increased use of water by larger, more affluent populations - all of these things affect localised climate without ever having to invoke ‘Greenhouse Gases’ and ‘Man Made Global Warming’.

None of this is to claim that the global climate is not constantly changing from natural causes - as it has done throughout geological history, due to constant variability of solar output, volcanic activity, Milankovich Cycles and more, as discussed in section 3 of an earlier article.

The BBC have been rumbled publishing unabridged propaganda and lies about Covid and the vaccines. As indisputably proven in this article, their fake-news “climate emergency” is also driven by their far-left activist agenda. They despise their own license payers, who they lie to constantly in collusion with non-British citizens.

We all need to unceasingly call them to account until the whole corrupt edifice comes crashing down - along with the IPCC, the WHO, the WEF, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Tony Blair’s Institute for Global Change, and every other neo-Marxist globalist cesspit peddling these scams.
